Position Overview:

All MECs opticians must be uniquely qualified opticians as they are the face of MEC as guests within each of our Client locations.  This requires MEC opticians to possess skills and abilities that go beyond what is expected from the traditional medical or retail-based optician.  Greater emphasis is placed on the MEC optician’s ability to lead the business, to develop and manage interpersonal relationships, to communicate effectively at a high level, to deliver superior customer service to both the Client and their patients, and to achieve all sales objectives.  As an employee of MEC, all MEC opticians are expected to act as MEC’s representative to the Client, to communicate directly to MEC management, to be empowered, and to take responsibility of the optical dispensary to ensure its success.

Primary Job Duties and Tasks:

  • In all ways professionally represent MEC to the Client
  • Take ownership and manage all activities of the optical dispensary
  • Attain all sales, collections and performance goals established by the Company
  • Dispense prescription and non-prescription eyewear (and contact lenses when applicable) to patients using “The MEC Way” sales approach to achieve all sales objectives
  • Complete and process all sales orders on time and accurately using MEC’s point of sales systems
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of orders, prescriptions and payment information
  • Review job/lab activity reports and manage the lab and the needed communication (MEC, client and patient) to ensure all jobs are completely accurately and timely and managed properly
  • Submit all insurance claims and post all insurance payments on time and accurately
  • Ensure timely payment of all insurance receivables and follow up on dated receivables with insurance companies
  • Maintain accurate and detailed records of frame inventory
  • Complete all daily, weekly and monthly financial and management reports on time and accurately
  • Professionally maintain frame inventory levels and care for and arrange all frames by keeping the displays properly stocked and cleaned
  • Review the clinic patient schedule daily to understand patient volume, potential sales opportunities and insurance benefit eligibility
  • Oversee the proper use of all in-office promotions and point-of-sale materials
  • Develop and maintain a strong working relationship with the client – the providers, technicians and administrative personnel
  • Engage patients daily in the waiting areas of the clinic to help them with repairs, adjustments, and cleaning of their eyewear
  • Maintain a clean and professional work environment and maintain the equipment needed to perform all duties
  • Adhere to all Company Policy and Procedures (such as computer use, persona device policy, dress code, communication protocols, etc)
  • Communicate all employment concerns or issues directly and immediately with MEC management (such as change in work schedule, vacation requests, sick leave, client relationship issues, etc)

Required Skills and Abilities:

  • Display an enthusiastic and engaging personality
  • Capable of reading, analyzing and understanding spectacle prescriptions (and contact lenses when applicable)
  • Use of persuasive sales and handling objections

  • Use of  MS Excel, CompuLink, print functions, email and search insurance websites
